The main function of calcium propionate can denaturate microbial proteins, and propionate can inhibit enzyme activities after entering microbial cells, denaturate enzymes and show its preservative effect.

Calcium propionate is a new feed additive, its toxicity is much lower than the widely used sodium benzoate in our country, is considered to be a normal component of feed, but also an intermediate product of animal metabolism. Mechanism of action:

Calcium propionate is an acid-type feed preservative, which produces free propionic acid under acidic conditions and has antibacterial effect. The antibacterial effect was affected by the pH value of the environment, and the inhibitory effect of mold was the best at pH 5.0. At pH 6.0, the inhibitory capacity decreased, and the minimum inhibitory concentration was 0.01%. In the acidic medium (starch, protein and oil substances) to all kinds of molds, gram-negative bacteria or aerobic bacillus has a strong inhibitory effect, can also inhibit the production of aflatoxin, and is harmless to yeast, harmless to humans and animals, non-toxic side effects.
